My first ever model was a 57 El Camino from Revell. I finished in one nite, by myself. The thing was horrible, no paint, glue everywhere, all over the windows, tires, it was a mess! But I was so proud of it and my dad loved it too (he knew it looked like garbage, he used to do them too.) From there the next one up was the Space Shuttle Columbia, or Enterprise, I can't remember which. As I got older, more and more cars were built. I entered my first ever model contest when I was 11, and I entered a 1968 Barricuda and came away with the old "participation" award, which at the time, you would have thought I won the whole contest :)

In my teens I continued to build more and more, then when I was 16, I got my license, and that was it for the hobby. Nearly out of the hobby for about eight years, I saw a sale in Wal-Mart for some old NASCAR kits for like $5, so I picked one up, and still having most of my tools and paints, built the car. Like a light switch, the urge was there, and! I was off to the races, (pun intended) finishing one car and starting another. In 2000, I entered my second ever contest put on by the VSM club, and I got blown away. My stuff looked like garbage compared to their stuff. After much talking to and meeting new people,

I feel my skills have greatly improved, with reading magazines, I discovered tons of tips and tricks. I haven't received any awards yet, I have picked up a few second and third places, but I'm happy with that. About a year and a half ago, I was starting to get into a rut with building, so I gave a try at doing a tank. I joined VSM, and that's where I met Russ. Yes, the one and only SAS. I am a student of the Russ Sharp College of military modelling, and I think now I have a new niche. Although I keep telling him I will still always build cars, I'm finding myself doing more and more military. Whadda gonna do? I'll pretty much build anything, if it catches my eye. To newbies, I say start something small, and not too overwhelming, and you'll do great!
