Czech company Plus Model are gaining a well-earned reputation for producing quality 54mm castings and the more I see of it the more I like it! I'm particularly impressed with the way they pay very close attention to details, even on what might be considered mundane items. This set of German Kitchen Equipment is a good example.

The pack contains approximately 35 main castings including cooking pots, large canteens and milk churns. There is also a chunky cutlery box. In addition to these larger pieces are countless smaller castings including everything from assorted pans - with and without separate lids - to a pair of hot food carriers. These were worn like a back pack and then ferried to the soldiers serving on the front line. The kit includes a small brass etching on which are 4 sets of straps, complete with buckles, which can be bent into shape to form the carrying harness.

Along with the traditional opaque castings there are a small number of bottles cast in transparent material. This is obviously a novel approach and one which I suspect will work well. After finishing this review I intend to experiment with a variety of different ink glazes to see what kind of effects can be achieved.

The castings are perfectly clean throughout and it's a real pleasure to behold the quality of the finer pieces. Some of the pans, for example, are so thin that - like fine bone china - you can almost see through them. Add to this the brass etching and a small set of water slide transfers and you've got everything you need to create a full range of kitchen equipment. If that wasn't enough, there's even a small length of copper wire for fashioning into pan handles!

Great stuff!
