Mike has produced another booklet on British camouflage of World War Two, this time covering Sicily & Italy, although some of the schemes used were used in North Africa as well. Sixteen single sided A4 pages with a coloured cover contain a wealth of detailed information, quoting the Army Instructions originally used for the best possible accuracy. Also included are fifteen pages of camouflage pattern diagrams, which are the original artwork, cleaned up on the computer. Various AFV's and soft skins such as Sherman, Grant, Jeep, Bedford 3 ton, Crusader, Humber Utility and 25pdr gun shield are included to illustrate the 'official' instructions.
Reminiscent of the old AFV-G2 magazine are separately pasted in colour samples of Light Mud, SCC 14 Blue-Black, Dark Olive Green and SCC No 15 Olive Drab with various Humbrol mixes to obtain a match. Further information is given on recognition markings and painting instructions. I had not realised quite how complicated the subject was, and am very pleased to see information on a much neglected theatre published.
Mike is honest with his work and where he is not 100% certain of a fact he states that it is'provisional', although I doubt few would be able to present a more authoritative work. I look forward to his next volume, hopefully on NorthWest Europe. The cost of this booklet is £10.00 with £1.00 First class postage and packing direct from Mike at: -
Mr M. Starmer 18, Hillside Road, Piddington, Northants, NN7 2DB Great Britain.
His previous publications, such as El Alamein, and his series of decal sets are still available. Enquiries direct to Mike at the above address.
Thoroughly recommended.
