"The Quaestors of Acheron are the guardians of the accursed cathedrals and Salaüel's emissaries among his worshippers. The Coryphaeus, master of the Quaestors' infernal ceremonies, is one of the two confessors of the Divine Baron Feyd Mantis. Many are the warlords who have succumbed to the sacrilegious promises of this diabolic tempter"
- extract from the narrative on one of the cards © Rackham 1996-2003.
The Coryphaeus figurine comes in three pieces as shown in the photograph, a main body with separate left arm and a large sword. Standing a huge 50mm tall, the detail of the casting is very good, replicating the sculptor's excellent work down to the finest details. The separate left arm fits almost seamlessly between the shoulder and where the apparition in the hand meets the foot of the figurine. The large sword is attached to the back of the figurine using the usual Rackham ball and socket, the correct angle being determined by the straps hanging from the hilt. I think I would add a little epoxy putty between the sword blade and the body if the miniature is to see extensive handling on a gaming table just to be safe.
Two highlights of the sculpture in my opinion are the face, which reminds me of the film 'The Mummy' with its semi decayed ligaments for cheeks, and the lower body with horrific skulls seeming to push out from swirling robe. I'm not sure if this is actually a robe or supposed to represent an ethereal cloud but either way, it's cool!
The pack includes the character card, game cards and counters, plus the Incantation rulebook. The character card is currently 'special edition', i.e. it portrays artwork of the character instead of a photograph of a painted figurine. It is important to point out that this is in no way a limited edition and appears because the Rackham studio apparently do not have a painted figurine to photograph, yet.
"Dressed in a thick fur coat, Kelen entered the vast hall of curiosities. His clothes soaked by the snow left a trail of drops on the fine tile floor. A young man with very old eyes appeared from a narrow corridor. He held a sealed letter. Who must I give it to? asked Kelen, without bothering with the usual courtesies. To the Coryphaeus. Do not fail, for you must return with his answer.
The Coryphaeus, master of Salaüels Chorus, confidant of Feyd Mantis and herald of the infernal courts Approaching this diabolical tempter will be easier than getting away from him. The Chroniclers messenger took the letter knowing what trials awaited him, but without feeling the slightest fear. "

Positive: Superbly sculpted, capturing a frightening portrayal of an un-dead monster.
Negative: No photograph on the card, so a little difficult to decide how to paint.
Value: Pretty good for the quality of the figurine with a lot of game related cards.
