"Few individuals outside the borders of the Empire of Akkylannie are able to fathom the importance of the Templars of the Griffins role. They are the protectors of the faith, loyal warriors, and bankers of the Empire, and they form an order united by bonds as solid as the steel of their armour. The Order of the Templars of the Griffin hides many secrets"

The 'Griffin Templar 3' clam shell is labeled as such not because it contains 3 figurines but as a result of these being the third set of sculptures for the ranks of the Templars. It does coincidentally contain 3 complete figurines.

The three bodies are completely different, but all posed in a similar stance, as are the sword arms. The three heads and shields are the same. Simple ball and socket joints are incorporated to connect the components so the variation for posing the figurines is virtually unlimited. The detail of the figurines, particularly the equipment around the belt is exquisite, but the feature that really strikes me is the way the robes 'flow' around the lower legs. This characteristic above all others defines Rackham figurines, the style being instantly recognisable.

The evolution of the Templars sculptures is clear with these figurines, they are more refined and dynamically balanced than the earlier ones. This is not to say that the previous figures are not also excellent, just that if they were all lined up it would be easy to determine which were the latest.

Also included is the basic Confrontation rulebook and a single reference card for the game. A reference for the Hybrid game isn't included since there is already one in the cards that come with that game.

I strongly recommend leaving the shields off, painting the bodies and then attaching them later rather than trying to paint obscured detail. The figurines are tall, at 35mm to the top of the head but are the same as other figurines from Rackham, making me suspect that my classifying these as 28mm scale may be incorrect.

"Present on all the fronts of the imperial Crusades, the Templars of the Griffin are united by martial and fraternal bonds. Ready to sacrifice their lives on a simple order of the Emperor, they retreat from nothing to vanquish in the name of the Light and justice. In this dark era the Templars seem to be the last defence of the Truth in front of all the horrors of Darkness."

Positive: Great sculpture and flexibility for posing.

Negative: Can't think of any on second thoughts, one of the bodies appears to have some slight damage to the mould leaving a little excess metal along the joint line of the ankle.

Value: Very good. I paid £8 for this set at a show and similar prices can be found elsewhere.
