First, what it says on the box...

Box set contains everything needed to begin playing an APAC force including 6 finely detailed metal miniatures including an Arashi, Yuurei and 4 APAC Enforcers, data cards, deviation dice, quick-start rules and CD-ROM including printable counters, templates and terrain."

Second, the review...

Aberrant Games are just one of an increasing crop of new figure manufacturers on the tabletop wargaming scene. Indeed, at the time of writing this review, the official launch of their much anticipated new game system - Rezolution - is still some weeks away. Last week I caught up with Aberrant head-honcho, Simon Mackenzie, who was kind enough to give me a sample pack of the forthcoming figures for the game.

The first thing that you notice about the figures is their rather willowy stature. Although sold as 28mm, they look a little on the slender side. One thing that may account for this is the fact that almost all of the characters are wearing platform boots - of the kind once favoured by Ginger Spice and a whole army of young goths. Either way, it's probably fair to say that these miniatures are more akin to the figures produced by i-Kore and Hasslefree than the stockier offerings of Games Workshop et al.

When you look a little closer it becomes apparent that whoever sculpted these characters certainly knows a thing or two about the human body. One figure, in particular, that caught my eye is depicted in full flight, jumping feet first whilst blasting away with twin pistols. The way in which the muscle tone has been rendered on this figure is truly first rate. The other characters are equally well cut.

5 out of the 6 figures are armed with pistols. The only character not so armed is the leader. When you look at him, however, there is a suggestion that perhaps he doesn't need one! His brooding posture and bulging biceps instantly mark him out as a man of few words. Not to be outdone, he does have one special accessory - namely a hat. It is of the large, conical, straw variety favoured by workers in the rice paddies of the far east. Once deployed on his head, he puts me in mind of the 3 Storms from the 80's non-epic film, "Big Trouble in Little China". When the game is finally released we may even discover that he harbours similar special powers.

I like these figures - and so will you. They are very nicely detailed and will require a deft hand with a brush to ensure non of the skill that has gone into their creation is lost under a blanket of paint. If you're looking for something a bit different, a bit near future, with a twist of Manga thrown in for good measure, these are certainly worth a look!
