A hill is a hill is a hill! What more is there to say? Jack and Jill went up one - Hank became king of his and Julie Andrews proclaimed hers were 'alive with the sound of music'! Hills have been adorning wargaming tables for yonks. To begin with, most people are content to cover a couple of books with an old green blanket. When you start to take your gaming seriously, however, nothing but a genuine topographic masterpiece will do! The trick is knowing a good one from a bad one. Some make look like the real thing in miniature - but will they stand up to the relentless pounding of little white-metal feet every Sunday afternoon?

These hills from the Scene are hand crafted from a variety of different materials. The base is formed from a sheet of MDF, which has been cut and shaped to size. The profile of the hill is then built up with a solid core. This is then covered in several layers of tough, ceiling Artex. The whole thing is then sealed, covered in flock and then sealed again. The final result is a piece of terrain that is (truly) rock solid.

The hills are available in various shapes and sizes - ranging from several inches wide to several feet in length. As well as their flock coating, most also feature at least one incidence of a rocky or muddy outcrop. These are areas which are left flock-free and painted either brown or grey, with extra pebbles and small rocks added for greater effect.

Perhaps the best feature of these hills is their strength. They are nothing if not robust! Mike, the owner of the company, demonstrated this by hammering one piece up and down on a table at a recent show. Apart from losing the odd speck of flock, the hill was entirely unscathed! Even if the terrain were to become damaged it could be patched-up again in a matter of minutes.

Plus: Strong and heavy - which means they can put up with punishment and will not slide around your battlefield when you least expect it.

Minus: They probably don't look as attractive as hills covered in static grass - but I'm not complaining. There's more to this range than looks alone!
