Cyanoacrylate - "Super Glue"
2003-10-11
Once used for DIY repairs to priceless ornaments, 'super-glue' or cyanoacrylate to give it it's correct name now finds many uses in model making.
Super glue is very useful because it bonds disimilar materials, rapidly. It does need a relatively good fit of the parts to be joined although there are now different 'grades' of super glue commonly available that are designed to fill gaps as well. Gel, standard and thin grades are all useful, choose the one that suits the application best.
Caution: please read the warning on the bottle or tube - Cyanoacrylate does bond skin to skin, models, desks and tools instantly and should be handled with care. Safety glasses are also recommended, a small splash in the eye hardly bears thinking about.
