Polystyrene Cement

2003-10-11

The most common material for plastic model kits is injection moulded polystyrene. The individual pieces are arranged on a sprue and after removing using side cutters or a scalpel and cleaning they have to be assembled.

Poly cement is the best adhesive for joining polystyrene components. The cement contains a solvent that melts the surface of the plastic, allowing the two parts to fuse together. As the solvent evaporates the strength returns to the polystyrene, the components having been 'welded' together.

Poly cement is available as both gel (tube) and liquid (bottle), the latter having a small applicator brush incorporated in the cap.
