Brass Rod & Tube
2004-4-9
Brass rod and tube is a common material for many model enthusiasts, finding uses in all genres of model making. It also happens to be one of the few things still defined by the imperial measurement system... what on earth is a 'sixteenth' of an inch...?
One of the neat things about brass is that each size fits inside the one above it. This makes it relatively simple to simulate working parts such as hydraulic cylinders on vehicle doors, or even to create working parts and mechanisms.
Brass can be cut using a junior hacksaw or side cutters, then dressed with a needle file. Only use side cutters on thin brass rod and be careful not to crush tube if you need to fit another piece inside it.
Brass can be joined using superglue or preferably by soldering.
